Getting a VAT invoice for a leaderboard listing

Paid placement is a business expense, and a business expense needs an invoice your accountant will accept. This is what you get here, and how the VAT works.

Article 1 · The invoice

Stripe issues an invoice for every payment, with your billing details and the tax number you enter at checkout. It is linked from the page you land on after paying, and Stripe emails it to you.

Article 2 · The VAT

  1. Prices on the board include VAT. A €5 bid is €5 on the board and €5 on the statement, and any tax due is carved out of that figure rather than added on top.
  2. Enter your VAT number at checkout, and Stripe Tax decides the treatment from it. For a cross-border EU business that normally means reverse charge, and the invoice says so instead of showing a tax amount.
  3. An Estonian customer is charged Estonian VAT. Reverse charge does not apply to a domestic sale, whatever the VAT number says.
  4. With no tax number, an Estonian customer's price still contains Estonian VAT, and for everyone else the invoice shows none inside it. The amount charged is the bid either way. That reflects where this business is registered today, and it is not a determination of what tax is due or who owes it.

Article 3 · One thing to know

  1. Bids are permanent and non-refundable. This is a service for businesses. A listing's identity is validated against VIES when it first joins the board, and the terms are B2B. Decide the amount before you pay it.
  2. The VIES check happens when a listing is created. Raising an existing listing does not repeat it, and a business other than the one that created the listing may raise it. The invoice for that payment goes to whoever paid, under the tax details they give Stripe.

Common questions

Do I get a VAT invoice for a leaderboard listing?

Stripe issues one for every payment, with your billing details and the tax number you enter at checkout. It is linked from the page you land on after paying, and Stripe emails it to you.

Is reverse charge applied?

For a cross-border EU business that gives a valid VAT number at checkout, normally yes, and the invoice says so instead of showing a tax amount. Stripe decides that, not this site.

Is the price on the board what my card is charged?

Yes. The bid is what is charged, and any tax due is carved out of that figure rather than added on top, so a €5 bid is €5 on the board and €5 on the statement.

Can I get a refund if someone outbids me?

No. Bids are permanent and non-refundable, and being passed is the mechanic rather than a fault. You can raise the same listing and pay only the difference.
